Budget and cost savings for Geoscience

 

There are some minor corrections to previous information on the schedule for publication:
On Friday 10 January 2014 I will know the approved local budget and saving targets. On 14 January this information will be discussed at a local LSU meeting, and on Thursday 16 January the dean will give general information to  all staff.
I wil inform you all in detail at a joint staff meeting on 16 January at 13:15.

AU it has announced close-down of all it during the weekend due to maintenance work.

2014 - International year of Crystallography
On the recommendation of the International Union of Crystallography, UNESCO has named 2014 the international year of crystallography. During the year a number of meetings and lectures will take place. The initial arangement will be in the UNESCO building in Paris on 20 and 21 January.

Staff

The following adjustments have been made for staff development dialogues (SDD) at Geoscience:

  1. SDDs with the permanent scientific staff are transferred to the head of department, as agreed with the sector leaders
  2. Head of department holds SDDs with head of secretariat, head of workshops, laboratory manager and AC-TAP Egon Nørmark.
  3. In future, Geoscience will use the AU HR developed SDD system.

Plan for SDDs:

  1. January 2014: permanent scientific staff has received an e-mail notice of SDD with head of department. An Outlook invitation will follow shortly.
  2. Permanent scientific staff  must hold SDDs with own externally financed project employees, such as postdocs and research assistants. If needed, in January/February – otherwise during autumn 2014. A joint introduction to the new system will be arranged for alle managers holding SDDs.
  3. Technical/administrative staff will have SDD with their immediate superior.
  4. PhD students have an annual SDD with Jan Piotrowski, as head of PhD programmes. Further, they have close contact with their supervisor and are followed by the system.

Research

Horizon 2020 / MSCA
On December 11, 2013, the first call in the new EU Horzon2020 programme was announced. Of special interest to Geoscience is the possibility of applying for networks of funded PhD grant via the ITN programme,  for individual postdocs (IF) or for research visits of more experienced scientists (RISE) via the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (MSCA) (previously known as the Marie Curie Action)”. Application deadline is April 9, 2014.

Funding for cooperation with Chinese universities

Previously funding was limited to AU's partner universities in China (Tsinghua Universitet, Beking Universitet, Harbin Institute of Technology and FUDAN i Shanghai). However, this last year (2014) of the funding period, is is decided to change the process and open up for funding of development of cooperation with Chinese universities.
Max. amount: DKK 110,000 and some additional funding from the Chinese part is usually required.
Total funding for 2012 – 2014: 2,2 mio DKK.

PURE registration for 2013

On 1 March 2014, we will be harvesting the 2013 records of publications and activities in PURE. The records will be used for AU's key figures and will show externaly the total production for the year which is important for the distribution of government basic funding to Danish universities.
Therefore it is extremely important that all publications from 2013 are properly registrated and validated in time.

Deadline for registration of your activities and publications 2013 is 1 February 2014.

NOTICE: AU IT will make it-disturbing maintenance work on Saturday 25 January which will effect PURE. It MAY also make troubles on Friday 24 and Sunday 26. Follow status on: http://driftstatus.au.dk/
