NEWSLETTER ABOUT WORK ENVIRONMENT

These newsletters are sent to staff and students regarding work environment, safety and health issues. The newsletter is published approximately 4 times a year, usually after LAMU meetings. Information from LAMU and the department rules and regulations can always be found at the website for Work environment. (Requires AU-network, use the VPN client from external locations).

Agendas and minutes from LAMU meetings are located on the O-drive:

BRIEF NEWS FROM LAMU

  • MitHR is a new system for registering absences: You must register your sickness absence in the system on day 1 and at the same time send an e-mail to your immediate manager.
  • Due to savings, there are currently no plans for local courses or workshops for staff. This also means that a workshop on Workplace Culture with the topic of Recognition has been postponed indefinitely.
  • Stick to the good habits of saving energy: You're making a difference! We can still improve by turning off lights and closing doors.

Gender balance in geosciences in Denmark?

The report "Hvor taber vi talent?" (Where do we lose talent?) clearly shows differences between women and men on several parameters. E.g. on the number of co-authorships and in the distribution of research funds.

These figures open up a number of new discussion questions such as:

Why do women have a lower succesrate on their research applications, compared to male peers?

At the department, an informal network for female researchers WINGS (Women IN GeoScience) has been formed, and here the discussion is focussed on challenges, initiatives and solutions.

Katrine Juul Andresen is a member of the faculty's Diversity & Equality CommitteeContact Katrine if, for example, you have comments or suggestions on what can be done to improve the balance.

Conserving the Vennelyst park among others

Slots- og Kulturstyrelsen has decided to protect the University park and Vennelyst park as "landscape architectural work" together with nine building complexes consisting of a total of 26 buildings.

The Department of Geoscience is located in the Vennelyst park and our buildings are therefore subject to landscape conservation, with the conservation board now considering the exterior of the buildings as being protected.

The implications of this is still unclear, but has, among other things, created uncertainty about building maintenance and future changes.

Omnibus had an article about the subject where you can also read the responses.

Waste

  • Remember that cardboard boxes must be unfolded before they are placed in the cardboard container.
  • To ensure proper handling, waste bags (e.g. in laboratories) must be filled no more than half full. You are of course welcome to carry a full waste bag yourself to the container in the car park.
  • Waste racks installed by the wash basins in the toilets are only for paper waste.

The green laboratory guide

Aarhus University has anew green laboratory guide with specific suggestions for a number of carbon-reduction initiatives in the AU laboratories.

AU's green laboratory guide is divided into four different themes:

  • Energy
  • Chemicals
  • Gases
  • Waste
