Newsletter about work environment

These newsletters are sent to staff and students regarding work environment, safety and health issues. The newsletter is published approximately 4 times a year, usually after meetings in the local work environment committee (LAMU). Information from LAMU and the department rules and regulations can always be found at the website for Work environment. (Requires AU-network, use the VPN client from external locations)

Agendas and minutes from LAMU meetings are located on the O-drive, along with other legal information (e.g. workplace assessment action plans):

Brief news from LAMU

  • We are still working on planning a workshop about diversity and equality for LAMU, LSU, senior-Wings (Women IN GeoScience) and a group of students. The workshop will be based on the report "Gender balance in geosciences in Denmark: Where do we lose talent?".
  • During the annual office-rounds for staff we will focus on stress (prevention and management): We hope to pinpoint individual stress-factors. The AU HR Work environment section has published new material targetting different levels: Employee, group and manager.
  • Several people have been affected by the construction work being carried out across Nørrebrogade and/or the craftsmen working in our buildings. If you feel bothered by the noise or vibrations, please feel free to work from home after consulting your nearest supervisor.

The occupational health and safety organisation 2024-2027

The elections to the occupational health and safety organisation at Aarhus University are held every third year. The next election is by the end of 2023 in time for the occupational health and safety organisation to be operational by 1 March 2024.

INFORMATION REGARDING THE LOCAL ELECTION: SOON TO COME.

What can you do to ensure a good environment, every day?

  • Contact the work environment organisation at Geoscience, if you have questions or need help, if you encounter errors or omissions, if you have suggestions for improvements, or you have experienced a "near accident" or injury.
  • In order for us to improve the work and study environments for all, we need staff and students to participate actively in the Workplace assessments (WPA) as well as teaching evaluations. This will provide an opportunity for us to target necessary solutions.
  • Keep yourself informed about the work environment-work and the local safety procedures for laboratories at the Department of Geoscience located on our Work environment portal.

Evacuation procedures at Aarhus Universitet

The concept for evacuation at Aarhus University must work at all times:

The university is an open institution, and so the people who are to act as evacuation leaders and meeting point leaders are not appointed in advance. It is important that everyone is able to step in and assume the role of evacuation leader or meeting point leader, if the situation requires it. It is therefore important that everyone who spends time at Aarhus University is familiar with the evacuation concept in detail.

The university has produced an instructional video that is mandatory to watch, available in Danish and English.

At Geoscience we also have a set of green vests which are used by observers from the local occupational health and safety committee (LAMU): The green vests indicate a person from LAMU who is not actively participating in the exercise but observes, among other things, human behavior and sound from the alarm system so that we can learn from the process and optimize the evacuation of different areas. During an evacuation drill, the observers are placed around the corridors.

More waste sorting at AU

In the spring of 2024, Aarhus University will introduce a new waste-sorting system with more fractions that will make it possible to recycle more of the university’s waste. There will be about 900 additional waste bins in the university’s kitchenettes, study areas, canteens and outside the lecture theatres.

More info: AU is now on the road to a better waste-sorting system
