Newsletter about work environment

These newsletters are sent to staff and students regarding work environment, safety and health issues. The newsletter is published approximately 4 times a year, usually after meetings in the local work environment committee (LAMU). Information from LAMU and the department rules and regulations can always be found at the website for Work environment. (Requires AU-network, use the VPN client from external locations)

Agendas and minutes from LAMU meetings are located on the O-drive, along with other legal information (e.g. workplace assessment action plans):

Brief news from LAMU

Thank you to everyone for the good will we met and the many great conversations during the annual office check for staff. A group of occupational health and safety representatives will now work with the input. Remember the good stories and what motivates each of us in our daily work life.

On 9 January 2024, a workshop on diversity & equality will be held for LAMU, LSU, senior-WINGS (Women IN GeoScience) and a group of students. The workshop will be based on the report on "Gender balance in geosciences in Denmark: Where are we losing talent?".

We have updated the institute's rules and guidelines on e.g. hydrofluoric acid, working alone and the special conditions that apply to pregnant and breastfeeding women. In addition, there are a number of new rules about field work, respectively on land, at sea and in the air.

Near-accidents

Help us prevent accidents and injuries

An accident occurs when a physical or mental injury occurs as a result of a sudden event. It is not only serious occupational accidents and injuries that we are obliged to handle. Situations or incidents which could have resulted in occupational accidents, but where for one reason or another (often by chance) no personal injury occurred, are called near-accidents.

A typical example is fall accidents which can be caused by a number of factors:

  • You trip and fall over an object
  • You fall because the floor or tiles are wet or irregular
  • You fall because you carry something heavy and lose balance
  • You fall due to poor or lack of lighting
  • You trip and fall because you are tired or unfocused
  • Other factor

Near-accidents must be registered locally so that we can learn from the incident: We do not want it to happen with a more serious outcome next time. The occupational health and safety organization must take appropriate measures to thereby reduce the risk of repeating the incidents.

Our buildings

The renovation of the ceiling in the foyer was completed in November.

Right now other activities related to building operation is affecting many of us:

  • The railing at the stairs leading up to the parking lot will soon be reinstalled. Take care until it is in place: It may be slippery during this time of the year.
  • The back door to the parking lot is in poor condition and will be replaced. This can cause noise and cold winds in the adjacent areas.
  • Ceiling lights are continuously replaced with LED lamps.
  • BYG carries out inspections of fume hoods in week 48.

If you experience malfunctions or omissions, please let NT-Byg Øst know.
