DHRTC - workshop
Organizer: Gülnur Dogan:
On the 25th of October 2016 Aarhus University (AU) researchers got together with their colleagues from the DHRTC and Mærsk Oil to hear about the challenges for the Danish North Sea and how DHRTC is working towards the solutions in collaboration with academia. The researchers had the opportunity to hear about each other's DHRTC-related research, as well as discussing how AU can contribute further to reaching the goal of increasing oil & gas potentials of the Danish North Sea. Representatives from the Danish Technological Institute were also among the participants, as well as the LFPs from Aalborg University and University of Copenhagen to stimulate the collaboration between partner institutions. Overall, it was a very informative and stimulating workshop.

Staff

Presentation of new employees and guests

Sabrina Nielsen - New PhD student from 1 November
During my master I produced the very first annual 14C-data from cuttings of tree rings from Spörer Minimum which is a period characterized by a relatively low solar activity. I recently started my Ph.D. project with Mads Faurschou Knudsen from Institute for Geoscience and Jesper Olsen from Institute for Physics and Astronomy as my supervisors. In the project I am going to produce more annual 14C-data covering Oort Minimum (low solar activity) and the Medieval Warm Period, where no annual 14C-data currently exist. From climate models and the new annual 14C-data I will investigate the Sun’s behaviour and its influence on Earth’s climate.

David Stott - Research assistant
I’m an archaeologist from Glasgow in Scotland. I work with using remote sensing data to detect and charachterise the impact of past anthropogenic activity on the environment. The data I work with includes LiDAR, multi and hyperspectral imaging spectroscopy, and geophysical surveys.
I will be working with these data at Geoscience on the Borgring project.

Staff Development Dialogue (SDD)

It is time for the annual SDDs. Hopefully all will be finished before the end of the year. :-)

Finance - Travels

Travel allowance - rules

The secretariat and the Finance Department have worked on clarifying the official rules for travel allowances.
On Geoscience staff website > Travels: http://geo.medarbejdere.au.dk/en/transport-and-procurement/travels/
you now find a list showing which groups are entitled to daily allowance and which are not.
Particular attention should be paid to PhD students' situation.

Remember always to agree with your grant holder before you leave how your expenses can be covered.
Contact the Secretariat if you have questions.

Evacuation exercise

On Friday 4 November at 09.30 a.m. an evacuation exercise was practiced in Geoscience buildings 1670-1675.

In 6 minutes the buildings were emptied of 60-70 staff members and students.

A successful exercise, but with room for improvement.

AU Library / PURE

A new service from AU Library

It is now possible for AUL to automatically import records from the database Scopus into PURE, which means that a large number of the research publications can be transferred in this way.
However, some publications still have to be reported in PURE by the individual researcher, and in future you will twice a year - late August and in December – receive a reminder about check and update your list of publications.
If you have any questions, please contact our librarian Morten Hjorth Gas, mhg@au.dk.
