Corona/covid-19

Download the corona app

All employees and students are encouraged to download the Danish app smitte|stop to help contain the Covid-19 virus.

Keep distance

Soon we are ready to welcome both staff and students back to the Geoscience buildings.

We all need to be reminded to keep our distance from time to time.
That is why stickers have now been put on the floors around the buildings.

Hold to the right

In the auditorium, there are "Keep to the right" labels on the floors.

Keep to the right also applies in all corridors and on the stairs.

Stands with hand sanitizer

In several places in the buildings, stands with hand sanitizer have been set up.

The stands are strategically located where many people pass by.
Do not move them.

Sanitizing wipes for surfaces

Sanitizing wipes can be picked up at the secretariat.

They are for wiping surfaces, ie. tables, keyboards, door handles etc.

REMEMBER! It's not just you who comes to your office / workplace. Everywhere in the buildings there are regular cleaning staff, craftsmen, IT supporters, etc. Often they come unannounced and you can not always see that they have been there.

Wipes are present in the lunch room in 1672 and by the coffee machine in the kitchen in 1672. Use them!
Wipes have also been delivered to building 1120.

Be sure to close the container after use, otherwise they will dry out.

Hand sanitizers by the toilets

The department provides hand sanitizers for the toilets.

If hand sanitizer is missing at a toilet, please notify the secretariat.

Protective equipment etc. for teaching

Purchase of protective equipment is ongoing, and we will be ready to receive our students, when they are allowed back.

In the classrooms there will be papertowels and desinfecting spray for the surfaces and hand sanitizers.
ST Byg takes care refilling. If there is an acute shortage, hand sanitizers and sanitizing wipes can be picked up at the secretariat.

We have face masks and visors in stock. These are handed out by contacting the secretariat.

Be aware that visors should be worn with face masks.
If you have special reasons for not using a face mask (e.g. asthma), you can settle for the visor - in which case it is extra important to keep a good distance from others.

Protective equipment for field trips

Face masks and sanitizers (both for hands and materials) have been procured for field trips and excursions.

Face maske are packed in smaller packages so that they are easy to carry in a backpack.

Sanitizers and protective equipment for trips are handed out by contacting Charlotte or Susanne.

Instructions in the use of protective equipment

Charlotte has made instructions for the use of masks and visors. They can be found on GEO's Covid-19 page

There are also links to videos e.g. one with everyone's corona-favourite Søren Brostrøm.

Paper towel dispensers i the kitchens

In the kitchens, paper towel dispensers have been set up.

We encourage you to wipe hands, counter tops and other surfaces in the kitchens with paper and not use the tea towels.

Show consideration in the electrical work shop

There are p.t. no access to the electrical workshop for anyone other than Per Trinhammer and Kenneth Madsen.

If you need cables etc. you must contact Kenneth via email kenneth.madsen@geo.au.dk.

Tools can still be borrowed by contacting Per. It must be sanitized after use.

Information for lab users

  • Work onsite that can wait (including visits from outside) must take place after 23 August: Lab work right now are urgent projects and / or processes that can not be stopped at short notice
  • All lab users (including microscopy room, Cleanlab, etc.) must coordinate their work with Charlotte to avoid too many people in the same areas and to make sure everyone know the guidelines
  • When working in the lab, users must take into account the distance requirement, cleaning of the workplace / contact surfaces and possibly work with the use of a face mask (if you can not keep enough distance)

Parties and Friday bars are on hold

Parties in connection with the start of studies have been canceled and Friday bars put on hold.
We are following the situation and the students will be kept informed.

PIGA activities on hold

PIGA's board has decided that no events will be held under the auspices of PIGA until the green light is given for the students at AU to hold social events.

Welcome new students

24 applicants have been offered a place at Geoscience in the 1st round.
That is an increase of 7 compared to last year.
So far, 22 have accepted the invitation.

3 applicants have Geoscience as their 1st priority in the 2nd round.
So far, 2 have accepted.

Tutors and mentors are ready to welcome the new students, and we look forward to having a little more life in the buildings.

Article in Nature

Assistant Professor Gry H. Barfod and Professor Charles E. Lesher, in collaboration with others, have written an article that has been published in Nature.

Marit-Solveig Seidenkrantz in SFU reference group

In the spring, Marit-Solveig Seidenkrantz was appointed to the Danish Agency for Research and Education (SFU) reference group for Horizon Europe (HEU), the EU's new framework program for research and innovation.

The purpose of the reference groups is to support Danish participation in and repatriation from the framework program by ensuring a broad and professionally well-founded Danish interest representation in the HEU program committees. At the same time, they must contribute to HEU gaining a strong foothold in the Danish research and innovation environments.

Remember to roll in sunblinds

Our sunblinds do not roll in automatically in the evening or in bad weather.

To prevent them from breaking, please make sure to roll them in so that they are not exposed to storms, hail, etc.

Any repairs are at the department's expense.

Access to 1670-1675

The door by the parking lot in building 1675 is now unlocked for the same period as the main door in 1670, i.e. 8 to 17.

Outside this period of time, access cards must be used to enter the buildings.

New access card rules

As of now, guest cards can provide access to the buildings for a maximum of 3 months.

External cards (mostly for suppliers who need access to the car park) can provide access for a maximum of 1 year.

If you are a contact person for a guest or a supplier, you should let them know this, so that the cardholder understands why the card suddenly no longer works.

Remember building number in the delivery address

ALWAYS REMEMBER to include the building number in the delivery address when ordering goods for delivery in either 1670-1675 or 1120.

GLS has just decided that they will not deliver to Aarhus University unless the building number is stated in the delivery address.

Nor can one expect to be notified by GLS that one's package is at their hub.

Therefore - always have the building number written on the delivery address.
Maybe other shipping companies get the same idea as GLS.

Do not block the fire equipment

Under no circumstances may goods or materials be placed in front of the cabinets with fire hoses.

In the basement 1670-1675, tape has been added in several places to make the location of the cupboards visible.
The ban on blocking the cupboards also applies where there is no marking!

New purchase agreement on petrol

Our new main supplier of fuel for department cars is Q8.

We still have an agreement with Circle K and will keep our Circle K petrol card, but when refueling you must use Q8 as far as possible.

Q8 cards can be used at Q8 and F24.
Circle K cards can be used at Circle K, Ingo and 1-2-3.

Use of department cars abroad

When driving in department cars abroad, short-term insurance must be ordered from TRYG.

This must be done no later than 5 working days before departure.

Susanne at the secretariat can help book insurance.

NO FOOD WASTE IN THE OFFICES

Do not throw food waste in the rubbish bins in the offices!

Food waste smells and the bins are not emptied every day.

Instead, use the rubbish bins in the kitchens, or the rubbish bins in the corridors (picture).

New partner at the research support unit

Our new partner at FSE is Ann-Christina Lauring Knudsen (called Stine).

Stine has worked as a special consultant in FSE's NAT-TECH team since 1.10.2019, and previously at the Department of Bioscience. She has worked with research consulting for more than 5 years, and has a background as a researcher from Italy, the USA and Denmark.

When Covid-19 allows it, she will be in the partner office 1671-134 on Thursdays. The period of time will be announced on the Geoscience staff portal later.

News from the research committee

Before the summer holidays, a meeting was held in the research committee, where the only item on the agenda was what should be emphasized in the future when the department is looking for new employees in research and teaching positions.

The discussion will continue during the autumn of 2020.

Information about work environment

Personal risk assessment

In relation to COVID-19, Charlotte would like to offer to help assess the risk of the individual's work situation.

The individual conversation will be based on situations in everyday life where you may feel exposed in relation to COVID-19.
