Corona/covid-19

Face masks can be picked up in the secretariat

All staff and students are encouraged to bring their own face masks, now that the rules are tightened and we all have to wear face masks in the hallways and in common areas.

However, it is still possible to obtain face masks from the secretariat (Susanne's office 1672-130).

It is NOT allowed to take face masks from office 1672-232, where packing of face masks takes place.

State of infection at Nat

AU has changed its policy regarding the publication of infection rates.
Therefore, it is now possible to keep track of the number of infected on the faculty's corona website.

Link to Nat's corona webpage

Download the corona app

All employees and students are encouraged to download the Danish app smitte|stop to help contain the Covid-19 virus.

Difficult to provide gloves

Because it is still difficult to obtain gloves, gloves that are not suitable for handling chemicals have been distributed in classrooms and meeting rooms (this also applies to ethanol).

Gloves that are chemical resistant may in future only be used in laboratories.

If in doubt, ask a laboratory technician.

Visit from rector postponed

Unfortunately the planned visit from the rector on 18 November will not happen.

We hope, a visit will be possible in the spring of 2021.

awards and appointments

David Lundbek Egholm

David will be vice dean for research at the Faculty of Natural Sciences starting November 1, 2020.

Everyone at the Department of Geoscience congratulates David on the appointment, though we are sad to let go of him.

ORDERING COMPUTERS ON THE 2020 BUDGET

Nat-Tech IT informs us that you must try to order new computers no later than 6 November, if the invoice for the computers is to be dated in 2020.

Orders placed between Christmas and New Year will not be processed until 2021.

New calendar for teaching activities

A calendar has been created in Outlook to coordinate teaching-related activities.
It's called "Undervisning, GEO".

All teachers have access to the calendar, and activities are written in it that can affect the daily teaching.
Excursions and field trips are especially important to add.

It is also good style to send a reminder to those teachers whose teaching may be affected by the particular activities.

NEW MAIL ADDRESS FOR NT-BYG

Facility management at Nat-Tech Bygningsservice has been divided into 4 groups.

Geoscience belongs to NT-Build East, which consists of:

• Leif Østergård Mikkelsen (lom@au.dk
• René Nielsen (rene.nielsen@au.dk)
• Willy Christensen (willy.christensen@au.dk)
• Lars Hansen (starts 2 November 2020)

The team can be reached by joint email: NT-BygOest.Bygningsservice@au.dk

OPTIMIsATION OF HR'S performance

The processes in the collaboration between HR and the departments must be optimised. This means:

HR must receive employment cases from the departments no later than:

  • 30 days before accession (Danish citizens)
  • 60 days before accession (EU citizens)
  • 90 days before accession (non-EU citizens)
  • Accession must take place on the 1st or 15th of a month
  • Appointments should be of a minimum duration of 6 months
  • HR prioritises recruitment cases in this order:
    1. Permanent VIP
    2. Permanent TAP
    3. Temporary VIP
    4. Part-time VIP
    5. Part-time TAP
    6. Others

Deviations can be made by agreement between HR and the head of department.

Questions can be asked to HR's team mailbox: HR.ST.team1@au.dk or to our HR partner Kathrine Kofoed Jensen | kofoed@au.dk | +45 9350 8204

NEW FOLDER ABOUT BECOMING A BUSINESS RESEARCHER

News from Nat Tech IT

  • We expect NT-IT to upgrade technology in the auditorium and teaching rooms. However, we cannot say when this will happen.
  • Office 365: OneDrive is ready to roll out. This makes it possible to access your files from all devices (computers, tablets, mobile phones).
There will be more information before the roll-out. The goal is that the O-drive is no longer used. On AU's website about data storage, the various solutions in connection with data storage are described (O-drive, Sharepoint, etc.)
Link to the data storage page
  • Security and devices: There are many unknown devices on AU's network. Known and unknown devices will be separated into 2 separate networks. In future, guests will only be able to access the unknown network.
  • Regarding contact for IT support: Please call or write. Hardware may only be picked up by prior arrangement.
There has been an increase of approx. 50% more purchases of IT equipment in connection with Corona, and there is a lot of hardware awaiting pickup.

Do you need help?

As an experiment, we have hired a student assistant for a number of regular hours at the department.

Andreas comes every other Thursday for 4-5 hours, depending on the need, and performs various incidental tasks.

If you have a task that you need help with, please contact the secretariat with a description of the task.

Use of images and video

As a public organization, AU's websites are covered by the Accessibility Act from 23 September 2020.

AU has compiled a number of rules and tips on how to use videos and images online, e.g. ifm. teaching. Note that the use of, for example, Youtube is not recommended, as the rights for the video are thus transferred to Youtube.
An important detail is that all videos produced in the future should have subtitles.

Information about work environment

ELECTION, Occupational health and safety committee

Elections to the occupational health and safety committee are to be held at the beginning of 2021: The current election period ends on 28 February 2021.

The selection process at Geoscience will gradually start at the end of 2020, with Birte Lindahl Eriksen appointed as the local contact person at the department.

See the members of the department's occupational health and safety committee (LAMU) and occupational health and safety groups (AMG)

Read more about the work that the occupational health and safety committee performs

Further information about the elections will follow.

STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF CHANGED WORK SITUATION

It has been concluded by Crecea that people generally fall into 3 categories (equally distributed) during COVID-19 and the working-from-home restrictions:

• Some who feel better than during normal working conditions
• Some who feel worse
• Some who feel the same

The effect of the changed work-situation (combined with a global pandemic) can cause demotivation, especially when returning to the normal situation. If you need to talk to someone feel free to reach out to your work environment representative, union-representative, or the AU psychological counselling.

Remember to close the doors in the labs

The ventilation systems in 1670-1675 are regulated as a closed system for each room with supply air and exhaust, which are adjusted as needed in relation to layout/use and the volume of the room. I.e. for point suction and fume cupboards to work optimally in the laboratories, all doors should be kept closed to the laboratories.

In addition, closed doors also help limit chemical emissions in the event of ventilation failure, minimize noise nuisance and possibly spread of fire will be slower.

Certain doors MUST ALWAYS be kept closed.

Emergency response

The AU emergency response team has produced a set of instructions related to the term ”acts of violence”: Terrorism, shooting incidents, threats and other types of violent acts.

Link to the instructions

AU has prepared a video on emergency response and evacuation.

Evacuation drill

Evacuation drills were to be held in the buildings 1670-1675 and 1120 this autumn.

Due to COVID-19, many have fallen behind with their tasks, and it has not been possible to find a time when an exercise would not be a major inconvenience to the work performed in the buildings.

Therefore, the evacuation exercise is postponed to 2021.

AU Photographer

PIGA has a new website with a description of the association's purpose and activities as well as guidance on how to become a member.

New employees

Hafsa Mahmood has been employed as a PhD student, starting on 1 August 2020.

Hafsa is a hydroscience engineer. She was born and raised in Pakistan.

She did her bachelor's in environmental sciences from Pakistan (with a one-semester study program Global UGRAD in Minnesota, USA). Then, she came to Europe as an Erasmus Mundus scholar for the Joint Master's degree program in Groundwater and Global Change - Impacts and Adaptation (GroundwatCH 2017-2019).

During her masters, Hafsa has worked as an intern for the Junior research group INOWAS, TU-Dresden. She has also worked with the United Nations University - Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES, Germany) and National Researches Institute of Rural Engineering, Water and Forests (INRGREF, Tunisia) on a project related to Managed aquifer recharge and emerging pollutants in a coastal aquifer, Tunisia.

Hafsa moved to Denmark in October 2019 because her husband works at Siemens. She found the Department of Geoscience, Aarhus University, quite relevant to her research aspirations and she wanted to do a Ph.D. so, she applied at Aarhus University and got a Ph.D. position.
