Geoscience newsletter

No. 10/2021 - December 2021

Let's get to it

Merry Christmas and welcome to this year's last newsletter.
"Won’t there be any more this year?" you may ask.
And the answer, unfortunately, is: "Nope."

And if you're sitting there thinking, "Bah, newsletter, I don’t need to read that. " Then you might just have to think twice about it.

I could talk for hours about the fact that it is mandatory to read the newsletter, that it contains important information, and that I have actually spent quite a long time making it. Would that help? I doubt it.

BUT! Maybe it can motivate you to know that you have the opportunity to win some Christmas treats for you and your family if you just read on. Somewhere in the newsletter I have hidden a small competition. So maybe you should keep reading ...

WORKPLACE CULTURE WORKSHOP january 26

On January 26, the mandatory Workplace culture workshop for the entire department takes place.

The location is Comwell Hotel down town, and it will be both interesting and cozy (and there will be delicious food and cake - does it get any better?).

Remember to register here no later than December 10.

RejsUd and IndFak

Now the year is coming to an end, and this means, as usual, that all travel settlements, advances and expense settlements which relate to 2021 must be settled.

If you have any of these, they must be sent for inspection no later than January 3, 2022, if they are to be included in the accounts for 2021.

For this reason it is a good idea to ask suppliers to send invoices regarding 2021 before the Christmas holidays.

So, pull out the dusty receipts from the drawer and get it over with. It does not take as long as you are probably imagining right now.

Hiring someone?

HR has, as an aid to job postings, made these templates, which you are welcome to use.

HR is also ready to help with the text for the individual posting.
Remember, by the way, that a posting must be coordinated with both Krishna and HR. If you are still in doubt about the procedure, you can read more here.

Easy, right?

PROBLEMS WITH AV EQUIPMENT IN THE TEACHING ROOMS?

If you experience problems with the AV equipment in the classrooms, you can contact IT Support on tel. 8715 0903

The number is also in the lower right corner of the screen in the room.

You can contact support if you have problems with both the ZoomRoom equipment and the projector.

CHRISTMAS CALENDAR JINGLE BELL ROCK

As something new, this year the secretariat and the education manager have put their heads together and made a Christmas calendar. It consists of 24 short episodes, each focusing on a rock or mineral with special Christmas properties.

The Christmas calendar runs from December 1 on our Facebook, Instagram and YouTube channel. Watch it before your neighbour and share it with your friends!

DISCO-2 LAUNCHES CROWDFUNDING

Christoffer Karoff plays a major role in the student-run satellite program DISCO, which will send a mini-satellite into space. The program aims to educate the next generation of scientists who will create the basis for a completely new and revolutionary way of looking at space.

As something new, the project is now using crowdfunding to raise funds. You can read more about DISCO here or in the news at Natural Sciences.

NEW COLLEAGUES

DA-PENG ZHU

Say hello to Da-Peng Zhu. He is a master’s student from Central South University, China, majoring in geology, supervised by Dr. Huan Li. He is currently working as a short-term intern with us from September 2021 to February 2022, supervised by Dr. Thomas Ulrich.

I want to ride my bicycle ...

The department now has a cargo bike that all employees can borrow. Yes yes, it looks heavy, but do not despair, it is fortunately powered by electricity.

So, if you have something big you need to pick up, or if you just want to try it, you can contact the secretariat to borrow it (and a helmet!).
