SUMMER CLOSURE IN THE NAT-TECH ADMINISTRATION CENTER

The departments in the Nat-Tech Administration Center will generally be closed for summer during weeks 28 to 30 (from Monday, July 8, to Friday, July 26).

Building services will be staffed throughout the summer – with summer staffing.

IT support will be available, but to a lesser extent. See the current opening hours here.

Summer CLOSURE OF THE SECRETARIAT

The Secretariat would like to thank you for your understanding of our pressured situation. We expect to be back in top form and fully staffed for the next semester.

This year, the Secretariat will be closed throughout July, so you cannot expect assistance during this period.

NAT-TECH IT HAS MOVED

Nat-Tech IT has moved to Building 1525-218.

CAMERAS

Cameras have been installed at the three entrance doors to our buildings. The cameras have been installed for preventive reasons. Recordings will only be released and reviewed by the police and requires a specific police report.

RESEARCH AND Business COMMITTEES MERGED

The Research and Business Committees have been dissolved in favour of a new joint "Research and Business Committee." David Lundbek Egholm is the chair of the committee with Anders Vest Christiansen as co-chair. Members of the new committee will consist of researchers from the permanent staff, representing a broad spectrum of research fields, career levels, and genders. Each potential member will be personally invited.

NEW HEALTH AND SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE

Søren Munch Kristiansen replaces Ole Rønø Clausen as the health and safety representative for the “VIP + Office” working environment group.

OUR LABORATORIES ARE PART OF GLOSOLAN

From 2024, our laboratories will be part of GLOSOLAN, the global soil laboratory network under the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. The network works on sharing knowledge about standardizations, equipment, and quality control of soil analyses. Contact Charlotte or Søren Munch if you want to know more.

STUDENT WINS BEST POSTER AWARD

Student Kristine Urhøj Møller received the award for Best Student Poster at the 'Archeometallurgy in Europe 2024' conference in Falun, Sweden, held in mid-June.

Her presentation of her bachelor project, "A Novel Approach to Differentiate Icelandic Iron Production Slags from other Viking Sources Combining Sr Isotopes and Trace Elements," impressed the judges and secured her this prestigious recognition.

Kristine completed her bachelor's degree here at Geoscience but has been employed for the past year at the Department of Conservation and Natural Science, Moesgaard Museum, as a laboratory assistant on on collaborating projects between Moesgaard Museum and the Department of Geoscience

Insights from the Cambrian SPICE event

Aske Lohse Sørensen just publiced the paper "Cascading oxygen loss shoreward in the oceans: Insights from the Cambrian SPICE event."

Marine euxinia can enhance marine productivity by recycling phosphorus from sediments, leading to increased marine oxygen consumption and widespread oceanic anoxia. Our study provides empirical evidence of this self-cascading feedback mechanism operated globally during the Cambrian SPICE event, demonstrated by carbon isotope and molybdenum enrichments in sediments from the Scandinavian Alum Shale Formation. Dynamic models for the global biogeochemical cycles suggest that the benthic phosphorus flux scaled with sedimentation and that chemocline shoaling into coastal areas likely triggered the SPICE event.
