No less than five researchers at the department have received grants from DFF this time.
Stephane Bodin for the project: "From the ocean to the continent: A leap forward in our understanding of the Jenkyns Event (Toarcian, Early Jurassic)"
Christof Pearce for the project: "GreenTrace: Trace Fossils as quantitative proxies in Quaternary paleoceanography around Greenland"
Marit-Solveig L.S. Seidenkrantz: “Pliocene and Early Pleistocene: analogue for future warm conditions in the Arctic (PlioArc)”
Mads Andreas Faurschou Knudsen: The southern Caucasus – a hotspot for early human evolution and dispersal?
Søren Munch Kristiansen: The cradles of agrodiversity in Northern Europe: A Holocene soil chronosequence approach (CRADLESOIL)
We congratulate the researchers and look forward to the valuable insights these projects will bring.

My research focuses on geochemical tracers to investigate the origin of archaeological metals and, more broadly, on applying Earth science analytical techniques to solve historical questions.
After studying geology and geochemistry for my M.Sc. degree, I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Toulouse (France). My doctoral research concerned the use of iron isotope analysis as a new approach to investigate the provenance of ancient iron. Then, my first postdoctoral position at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (France) aimed to identify the Roman sources of silver in the Iberian Peninsula using combined lead and silver isotope analysis of coin collections and archaeological ores.
During a second postdoc at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago (Illinois, United States), I worked on the optimisation of the portable laser ablation (pLA) technique for the sampling and subsequent elemental and isotopic analysis of archaeological metal objects.
In the frame of my two-year Marie Curie fellowship (MSCA), my work as a postdoc in the Department of Geoscience will focus on the production and dissemination of iron from Iceland during the Viking Age, using multi-elemental and isotopic analyses. Trough the restitution of the circulation network of iron between Iceland, Scandinavian homelands, Greenland and North America, this research project aims to better understand the migration patterns of the Norse population across the whole North Atlantic region.
